Tam at tha Somme (V)

Tam at tha Somme

Aye! Fareweel tae Ulster
Her blue hill n glen
Fareweel tae wer darlins
We'el never kiss again

It's a fur them tha fought in
The byegone days of yore
& it's a fur wer freedom boys
When the battles oe'r

Tam lay thonner blastit
ah mangilt near death

A was howlin him as he whuspered
wae his final breth

Tell them bak in Craigywarren, says he,
Am aff tae meet tha Lord

Up thonner A ll be waitin
tell them they hae mae wurd.

The tunes are the 36th Division and the Hills of Dergai where Ulstermen and the men of Scotland respectively, earned the highest awards a greatful nation may bestow, namely Victoria Crosses. The last tune is Highland Cathedral
